Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authorities’ GV-HEAT Program and its Vital Home Repairs for Older Adults Project has received funding from NextFifty Initiative, a Colorado-based foundation that supports efforts to improve the lives of older adults and their caregivers. This funding will allow the Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority (GVRHA) to advance its effort to support those 50 and older in Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties.

“We’re committed to meeting the unique and varied needs of older adults in our area, so we are excited to assist the GV-HEAT program to leverage work on seven to ten homes of income-qualified senior residents who are 50 years of age or older for needs for which there are no other funds available,” said Gesa Michel, GV-HEAT Coordinator of GVRHA. “This investment from NextFifty Initiative will be indispensable to a senior’s home so they can live in a safe and functional manner”.

GV-HEAT provides energy assessments and energy upgrades to income-qualified homes. As part of the energy assessment, the energy analyst will identify vital infrastructure repairs and additional energy efficiency upgrades that can be remedied with the supplemental NextFifty Initiative support. After a professional scope of work is done, we have the capacity to fix leaky pipes, broken fixtures, and high-use items, such as entry doors and window repairs. We can relieve moisture issues, unhealthy off-gassing, and provide additional weatherization measures that otherwise cannot be funded. All these measures will make a huge difference in a senior’s quality of life.

“We’re grateful for the work that the Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority is doing to improve quality of life for people aged 50 and older,” said Diana McFail, president, and CEO of NextFifty Initiative. “Older adults are vital to building and maintaining strong and healthy communities. We’re proud to support this and other efforts to help people age with dignity and purpose.”
