Are YOU a first-time homebuyer in Gunnison? If you have purchased a home that is new to you in the past three years in the City of Gunnison, you are eligible to enter a drawing to win up to $1,350 in energy audit and retrofit work on your home!  This is made possible through a collaboration between Coldharbour Institute, the City of Gunnison, Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority’s Home Energy Advancement Team (GV-HEAT), and Little Foot Building. To enter, email Gesa Michel, GV-HEAT Coordinator, at with your name, address, and date of purchase by 5:00 pm on Friday, May 7th. The lucky homeowner will be drawn on Tuesday, May 11th and notified that afternoon.

Under the management of Coldharbour Institute’s Equitable Solar Solutions (ESS) program a 5.52-kilowatt solar array with reused photovoltaic panels (PV) has been installed a year ago on April 15, 2020 at the Gunnison Ice Rink. Through the reuse of solar PV equipment, ESS intends to extend the functioning lifespan of materials otherwise destined for recycling or the landfill. ESS has worked with the City of Gunnison to transfer the money saved in energy bill reductions from the Ice Rink solar array to energy efficiency programs managed by GV-HEAT. As of April 12, 2021, the solar array had produced 9,356 kWh equivalent to approximately $800 in energy savings! These energy savings will be donated right back by GV-HEAT to the lucky first-time homebuyer to help with energy efficiency upgrades in their home. The energy analyst Andy Tocke of Little Foot Building will donate the energy assessment valued at $350 and GV-HEAT will donate energy efficiency materials valued at $200. With the $800 energy savings from the solar array, the total value in the drawing is $1,350. For more information contact Gesa at 970.234.5613 or
