The Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority (“GVRHA”) manages several affordable rental properties throughout Gunnison County and runs a tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher Program (“Section 8”) in the Valley. The locally-owned rental properties include: the Mountain View Apartments, Stallion Park Condominiums and the Rock Creek Village Community. All of the locally-owned rental properties are income-restricted to residents of the Valley.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to qualified applicants in Gunnison County. Once an applicant is awarded a Housing Voucher, he/she locates an acceptable rental unit in the local market. A unit is approved after passing a quality inspection and once the landlord agrees to participate in the program.
Under Section 8 Guidelines, an applicant pays approximately 30 percent of his/her adjusted income for rent and utilities. The Housing Authority pays the balance of the fair market rent to the private landlord. Non-resident applicants in this program are required to live in Gunnison County for the first twelve months after being awarded a Housing Voucher. The Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority screens all applicants based on rental and criminal histories.
The Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority shall not deny any family or individual the opportunity to apply for or receive assistance under HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program on account of race, color, sex, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, age, family or marital status, or disability.
